December '05 Movie Review

Ok, I’m gonna try to review movies that, umm, I get to see, you know, at the theater, with people, and popcorn, and out of the house, without the pause button.

Umm, before I get into how entertaining The Producers was, I feel I owe you my thoughts on Narnia.

If you haven’t noticed, Disney’s big media machine is running full tilt to pop Narnia out as the next Wizard of Oz.  However, after sitting through almost three hours of this movie, I don’t really understand who it was made for.  At times, too violent for all but adults and at others as whimsical as a muppet movie.  Just no consistency in the screenplay.

I’m sure if it wasn’t Disney, it would have been slapped with a PG13 instead of just PG for violent content.

There was also no consistency in the special effects.  At times, it was some of the best special effects I’ve ever seen on screen, but most of the time Disney cheeped out with canned green screen ho hum effects.  I mean, they didn’t even break out the fan for outdoor scenes.  The kid’s hair was just laying flat.

It’s a renter, not a classic.

The Producers, on the other hand, was well worth the price of a movie ticket.  Umm, we kind of accidentally got to see it because King Kong was sold out.  We would probably have waited to rent it, however, by about twenty minutes into the movie, we weren’t upset over Kong being sold out at all.

We laughed non-stop.  So, it is the BLOGeVICH recommendation that you get out to see this movie.  It is definitely another great one from Mel Books.
