Tawny Weber on ~ Rewards… Beyond Chocolate

September 27, 2008 at 1:43 am | Category: Guest Blogger, blog

Good morning!  I’d like to introduce this month’s guest blogger.  She’s a fabulous author and a wonderful friend.  Without further ado, here’s Tawny Weber!

There is nothing like the feeling of achievement (be it achieving a goal or some other *ahem* satisfaction – but for this blog I’ll keep it ‘P.C.’ and stick with goals *G*).  It could be after finishing a manuscript or finishing a great workout.  Maybe it’s completing a project or realizing something long worked toward (again, a story or weight loss are my current favorite project examples but you can insert any satisfaction goal you’re aiming for here instead).

You know that feeling.  A job finished, a challenge met.  A goal realized.  There is such a great sense of relief and achievement.  But as wonderful as those warm fuzzy feelings are, I like a little more than warm fuzzies.  I’m a big believer in rewards.  You know, dinner out.  A decadent chocolate dessert.  A new pair of sexy shoes.  A weekend of reading (ahhhh, my favorite).  I know people who give themselves the gift of a massage or facial, others who hit the bookstore for a shopping spree.

I’ve just turned in my fourth and fifth contracted books.  Coming on Strong and Going Down Hard will be out in April and May of next year and even though I’m ecstatic with the stories and excited to have written them, I’m just as thrilled to be finished.  I love these stories.  The characters, the premises – they are sassy and fun and in your face sexy.   While finishing them up, I was also promoting my September Harlequin Blaze release, RISQUÉ BUSINESS, so it was definitely a month of achieving.  But as soon as I turned them in, I was ready to take a break.  That’s when I realized that I tend to reward my initial achievements, then collapse after the biggies LOL.  I always buy myself a pair of shoes when I sell a new book, yet when I turn the completed manuscript in, I’m too tired to go out and party in the shoes.  So this week, I made myself stop and think about rewards.  Not the $$ kind, like my shoes.  But the relaxing, job well done kind.  I debated a facial, a mani-pedi or a trip to the bookstore.  But I ended up treating myself to my tried and true favorite, a week of reading and relaxing.  It’s been glorious!

How about you?  Are you into rewards?  When you achieve something you’ve been striving toward, like a book contract, do you reward yourself?  How?  And what about after you’ve completed the achievement – like turning in a book?  I’m looking to make a list of great reward ideas, so I’d love to hear yours.
